Visiting: Our Whittier neighborhood location (just steps from the Minneapolis Institute of Art) is easily accessed by car, bike, bus, or by foot. We have an adjacent lot with both car and bicycle parking. If arriving by bus, route 11 stops on our block; we are also within three blocks of routes 2, 17, and 18.
Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for seniors or students, free for children under 6 or for HHM members.
Accessibility: Visiting the museum at this time does require the use of stairs.

My wife and I visited the HHM today for the first time as part of the Smithsonian museum promotion. We’ve lived in Minneapolis since 2004 and love to learn about the history of the area and visit interesting places. We’ll definitely be back again. What a delightful gem of a museum! The Buzza greeting card exhibit was fascinating. We had never heard of them, but I suspect I have some Buzza cards in my childhood scrapbook, as we’re seniors. Loved the building and learning about the former owner. Quite a lady. And the archives in the lower level. Quite a treasure trove. Thanks for giving us a very pleasant and enjoyable afternoon.

My grandfather Jesse Scarrott and Grandmother Charlotte Scarrott Newton pioneered Bemidji from Canada circa 1900. Grandfather Scarrott built and operated the boat “Shadow” on Lake Bemidji and surrounding lakes for many years in the early 1900’s My family has several artifacts we would like to contribute. Are you interested?

I just read on Facebook that you will be having an exhibit this fall on Oak Terrace Nursing Home / Glen Lake San? Is this true? I used to work there. Would love to see it this exhibit! When does it start/open?

Yes! It opens on October 1, and is a partnership with Hopkins Historical Society and local Glen Lake historian Mary Krugerud (who has a book coming out on the topic this fall, too). We’re hoping to have lots of related programs, including opportunities to hear from those who worked there. We’d love to hear more about your experiences — and mark the afternoon of Sunday, October 1, on your calendar!
